• Click Documents from your Gmail account to open Google Docs
• Use the drop down menu to Create new Form (See below) 

• Create your form by adding the questions you want know about your students

• View the spreadsheet of your results from your form
• Download spreadsheet as CSV file
• Import into Gmail Contacts and Create a New Group

• Create a label with colors in Gmail

Auto Response/Canned Responses in Email

• First you have to activate Canned Responses in Settings - Labs
• Create a Canned Response in a New Document
• Set up a Filter to Send an Auto Response with your Canned Response
